Air conditioning needed in Oxford in mid September?

I'm not very heat tolerant, but specifying air conditioning greatly reduces the accommodation options.

Will it likely be hot overnight in Oxford the third week of September? Historic averages according to Accuweather put the lows around 65F, but it seems to be warmer in recent years.

I realize this is subjective and speculative, just looking for opinions. Thanks!

Whilst you can never be definitive about British weather on any given date it would be very unusual to need air conditioning in September. The fact that very few places have air con clearly reflects that.

You can get warm weather in September but probably won’t need air conditioning

I use timeanddate.com. It goes back to 2009, and you can check daily weather hour by hour. The information also includes humidity, wind speed and direction, etc. It's been very helpful in deciding when to visit, whether I need AC, what to pack, etc.

We stayed at The Randolph Hotel by Graduate Hotels in Oxford in June 2022. While the rooms were air conditioned, the bar and reception rooms were not. I love Oxford. Hope you have a great time.

Addition: In September 2023, however, we were in Paris mid-September with temperatures of 95 and 96 for a solid week. Fortunately, we had rented a flat with AC AND a fan (unheard of). We also had a washing machine which we used to wash our very sweaty clothes and bath towels, daily. I showered three times a day first one after getting up; second, after having been out in the morning (afternoon shower) and evening (evening shower). So, you are correct about the possibility of hot weather.

We were in Amsterdam last year, September 10, and it was about 95 degrees. We were in a hotel without air. After Amsterdam, we were in Delft, and it was still very hot, and our hotel didn't have AC there either. We made do it was frustrating, but you can't plan the weather.

Why is it that screens on windows seem to be a scarcity? Is it because buildings are old with irregular sized windows?

Depends really what sort of building. Hotels built in concrete, with non opening windows & no cooling can be stuffy even at not that high temperatures if sunny. More traditional buildings are less likely to be affected.

Temperatures peaked over 30C last year in the first two weeks of September but much lower around 20C in the third. This year of course is likely to be different.

Thanks for the replies.

I've narrowed it down to 3 hotels. The first two have AC, which I'll consider optional based on the info here. Anyone have knowledge of any of these? Thanks.

Ethos Hotel, 59 Western Road
George Street Hotel, 15 George St
The Galaxie, 180 Banbury Road

Combination of location, room availability, price, and cancellation policy narrowed it down to the Ethos.

Thanks again everyone!
