Afternoon/Overnight Layover in London

Hi,

I'm from Los Angeles and looking to see if my 17 yr daughter and I can handle a afternoon/overnight layover in London from our trip in Spain. We will be arriving in LHR @ 13:30 and fly out the next day to Los Angeles @ 15:30. We are thinking we can make it into Westminster for the afternoon/evening. I recall the Heathrow queue can be a nightmare so not sure if we have enought time.

Not sure when you were last in the UK, but US passport holders can now use the egates. Much faster than having to speak to someone.

I've landed in LHR (T2, T3) three times since 2022 and it takes me about 60-75 minutes to deplane, go through immigration (egates), pick up my bag (if I have checked it) and get to the tube/train/bus station. I was not hurrying either.

With more than 24 hours, I would probably be looking for an overnight location in London, not by the airport. Allow yourself time to get back to the airport 3 hours early in the morning (so leaving London 11 or 11:30?). You’d have time for the whole evening, plus a morning stroll, in the city. Unless it happens to be a strike day - definitely worth checking and keeping an eye on.

Unless you are really set on going into London, you migh want to consider staying overnight in Windsor. Much closer to the airport and plenty to see and do. Just something to consider.
