Afternoon Tea In Chester?

Our flight from the US will arrive in Manchester about 9:00 am. We will take the train to Chester and spend our first two nights in the UK in Chester. We try to stay up and busy on our arrival day. One of my schemes is to take tea that afternoon. Does anyone have suggestions for a good place for “afternoon tea”?

My first thought for afternoon tea was the Grosvenor Hotel. Very genteel.

There was a local Chester newspaper article last year naming their 10 best options, but unfortunately, my iPad doesn't want to copy the link into this post for some reason, but you could try googling "chester afternoon tea" and find the Chronicle's article.

If you are trying to get over jetlag, a walk on the walls maybe a better solution than sitting down in a nice warm place!

Thanks for the input! This was just the sort of information that I was looking for. I don’t think that exploring the wall and having afternoon tea are mutually exclusive. We will have lots of time to kill. I find that it is a good idea to have a plan for the first day off the plane. Otherwise I tend to just “vegetate” for the afternoon.

Try to see the Town Crier at 12:00pm. We had a lovely lunch in September at Ristorante Sergio. As for afternoon tea Mad Hatters, 49 Bridge Street Row East.

I train through Chester often while taking the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin. The Queen is the hotel right across from the entrance to the train station. It is a fantastic old charm English hotel, and the bar (I think it's called The Waiting Room) is full of local business people going home from work. You'll feel like you're in a movie being in there!

There are also a couple of really good old style (and new style!) pubs along the river. You walk down the steps towards the water to get to them. River boats are big, here, so there are alot of 'on the water' choices!
