Afternoon tea at Ritz

We will be off to London in a week's time. My sister really wanted to try the Afternoon Tea at Ritz . I was thinking of the cost and if there is a dress code as in formal wear? Thanks a lot.

For the dress code, it's much easier for a woman than a man. A woman could wear a dress, skirt or nice pants and top and be fine. No athletic type of footwear.

We will be with friends in London in September and while there my husband and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary. The friends want to take us to the Ritz for lunch or brunch. I mentioned the dress code and said my husband would not be bringing a sport coat. We will be having breakfast there instead. While there is still a dress code it's much more relaxed.

From the Ritz website:
"In The Ritz Restaurant and The Palm Court, gentlemen are required to wear a jacket and tie, with the exception of breakfast; jeans and sportswear are not permitted. Smart casual attire is requested for The Rivoli Bar and The Long Gallery. Please note that sports shoes are not permitted in The Ritz Restaurant, The Rivoli Bar or The Palm Court at any time."

After all , this is the Ritz. Where Hugh Grant discovered "Horse & Hound" magazine. Where Julia Roberts slept.
They're probably not kidding about the dress code.

About the cost: When I tried it some years ago it was not much more expensive than the dinner it replaced.
There was so much sandwiches and cake that we skipped dinner that day :-)

Long after the cost has faded from memory, you will always remember tea at the Ritz. The memories you will cherish will be priceless and the sandwiches and cakes are the best you will ever find. Besides, when you tell your friends you had tea at the Ritz, you won't have to explain about Harrods' or some other venue. A sport coat and tie are easy to pack or even wear on the plane or train. Enjoy the entire experience.
