Just wondering about recommendations for boat cruises in London and seeing major sites.
And also for the hop on hop off buses.
Can you hop on and off any of the boat cruises?
And taxi/ car service from Heathrow to London?
Thank you!!
Irene
How long have you got? What are your priorities to see?
Public transport (tube or Elizabeth line) will be both quicker and cheaper than using any form of road transport.
A HOHO bus is another waste of time and money in London. Traffic in London is so congested that the buses move very slowly. If you get off you might not be able to get on the next one that comes around. The tube or regular buses are the best way to move around.
Thanks.
I have just one afternoon, as Heathrow is just an overnight connection.
I've seen most of the sites years ago, so it would be fun to get something of a grand overview.
I would take the Piccadilly line from Heathrow, change to the District line at Hammersmith or Baron's Court (very simple cross platform change) and get out at Westminster.
You come out immediately in front of Big Ben. Walk to the river and take a boat to Tower Bridge and then walk across Tower Bridge and back along the South Bank. You get to see Southwark Cathedral, Borough Market, The Globe Theatre, Tate Modern, the London Eye and the National Theatre. then back across Westminster Bridge and back to Heathrow. You can make that walk last as long as you like by stopping at the attractions or at the many bars and cafes for refreshment. You will see way more than on a HOHO bus.
Take bus 703 from Heathrow terminal 5 to Windsor (46 minutes) and visit the castle or just walk around (depending on your time frame). Then take the bus back.
Or - if time allows - take a tour with https://www.windsorducktours.co.uk/. I'm still annoyed we missed that when we were in WIndsor in June.
