Advice about Dartmoor national park

Hi,

I'm considering spending a day or two in Dartmoor national park May 2016.

Looking for advice on the "Don't miss" sights in the national park.

Thanks!

Virginia, others may have better insight to the park as a whole, but my wife and I explored the area around Chagford. This included finding Scorhill stone circle, out in the moors between Chagford and Gidliegh. It is a wonderful area and the roads are lovely for wandering assuming you have a car. Chagford seemed a delightful town, worth a short visit for lunch or as a base to explore that part of the park. Happy travels!

Thank you for the advice, Steve!

I have been reading about Chagford, and it does sound like a great little town, and a good base. We are going to have a car to do lots of exploring.

Did you spend the night in or right around Chagford?

Thanks again,
Virginia

It depends what you like doing. There's some great walking on the moors, Castle Drogo if you like big houses (thouh there's some conservation work going on at the moment so it's probably not at its best), Coleton Fishacre a little further away on the coast, Chagford is a pretty little place, or explore the small Alfredian burgh of Lydford, which still has some of its Saxon ramparts and the delighful Lydford Gorge.
