Advance book tickets for National Gallery Mantegna/Bellini?

Hi everyone-
We’ll be in London in mid-December and wondered if we should prebuy tickets to the Mantegna/Bellini exhibit at the National Gallery? We would rather keep our schedule flexible if possible, but if the exhibit is tending towards selling out, we will book ahead. Does anyone know about the popularity of special exhibits at the National Gallery?
Thanks in advance for any perspective.

I had the same internal debate for the Monet exhibition last May - to book or not to book. I found that the National Gallery booking page for each exhibition has an indicator on the calendar days as to whether there is High availability, Low availability or Sold Out. I watched that for a few weeks and then decided I needed to go ahead and book because I only had a few dates that would work. I'd suggest you watch as well and if things look like they are booking out, I'd go ahead and purchase.

I think this link will take you to the booking page. Right now it's wide open but if you are going to be there around Christmas holiday time there might be a spike in bookings. It looks like it is closed on Dec 24/25/26.

Yes, I would strongly recommend advance booking for temporary exhibitions at the National Gallery, especially for a popular travel season. Expect crowds as well, despite the advance booking.

I went to a special exhibition there and was happy I precooked tickets. Never regretted it.
