Accommodations in Bloomsbury and Russel Square

We are headed for London May 30-June 4th. On the 4th, we will take the Channel Tunnel to Paris. I see lots of recommendations for Kensington and Bayswater, but nothing for Bloomsbury. Any recommendations? We have an early Sunday train to Paris and would like to be within a taxi ride of St. Pancras. Thanks.

I've stayed twice at the Morgan. Perfect location, literally around the corner from the British Museum. There's a bus stop two doors down and it's a few minutes' walk to the tube. Both times, I took the tube from Heathrow to Holborn and then walked to the hotel. It's a short taxi ride to St. Pancras. It's run by a father and son and all the staff are friendly and helpful. I don't know how its rates compare.

The area around Kings Cross has a growing number of chain hotels such as Travelodge and Premier Inn. There are many cheap hotels in the streets between Kings Cross and Bloomsbury, some are decent but some are absolute dives or outright dangerous (not so much crime as fire/hygiene). Be very selective on Trip Advisor. If you really want to be close to Eurostar, the Renaissance St Pancras is in the station building itself, but many people think it's expensive for the quality of the rooms (the actual rooms are in a modern building along the side of the station, not the classic Victorian part).

Thank you both for your valuable information. Chani, I have checked out the Morgan Hotel and it seems very nice. I am concerned that it does not have an elevator. We are both seniors and it would be difficult to go beyond 3 floors. From our hotel search, this seems to be a very nice hotel. Wish there were more in that central location.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury on Coram St. It is one block from the Russell Square tube stop so it is a very convenient location. It is a typical Holiday Inn ... clean, decent sized room. I stayed there free using points, so I can't really comment on price. I know a lot of people prefer not to stay in chain hotels.

We've stayed several times at the Grange Beauchamp Hotel. I love the Bloomsbury area; it's close to many sights and sites, good transportation in the area, and close to Covent Garden. We also stayed once at Montague on the Gardens, because we got a special deal; really, really nice.

When you make the reservation, tell him you want a lower floor. There shouldn't be a problem. There are two buildings, so you may end up in the "annex" two doors down. I've stayed in both buildings. The only minus to the annex is having to go outside to get to breakfast.

Hi Chani. Unfortunately The Morgan Hotel is booked for our dates. We did book at the Grange Beauchamp but they don't get great reviews. We're still looking. Thanks.

Hotel Tavistock faces Tavistock Square and is just up the street from the Russell Square Underground. Fairly reasonably priced (for London, anyway) and comfortable.

See if you can secure a room at The Crescent Hotel. Check their website and always check Tripadvisor reviews to see if it meets your criteria, especially if it has a lift.

Check out the Marlborough Hotel at 9 Bloomsbury St (across from the Morgan Hotel I believe). We've stayed there twice and really liked it.

Too bad the Morgan is booked--we stayed there in '12 and really liked it. If you can get someplace else nearby, the location could not be beat. We ended up taking the bus most places so we could see the city better than the Tube, although the Tube station was very conveniently placed as well.

Thank you all for your thoughtful recommendations. Right now, we are still booked with Grange Beauchamp.
