We are looking at early June 2025 for a three night stay.
Topping our list is the Rose and Crown and The Minster Walk B and B.
Not able to walk too far, any suggestions or recommendations of location or reviews.
Wanting to explore York and take the train to Whitby one day.
Thanks
On our own trip a couple of years ago we stayed at The Lawrance and enjoyed it very much. Can recommend it.
From there it's about a 15 minute walk to the Minster, and the train station is about 2 blocks away. Sounds like you won't have a car, but they have discounted rates at a secure NCP Car Park just up the street which we found to be quite handy.
Thank you. Yes we will have a car.
If walking is an issue the Lawrance can call you a taxi to get over to the Minster, and from there the historic center is pretty compact with plenty of opportunities to sit a spell while walking around.
Might mention that it is an old medieval city and, as such, driving would be quite challenging and finding parking would be a pain. We never attempted it, but left the car in the NCP lot and relied on our legs to get around the charming rabbit warren of the old city.
We also found that the location of the hotel made it pretty simple to get in and out of town.
I suggest you also consider The Minster Hotel-- Comfy beds, good price. Ask for a room in the annex.....it's a lot quieter there than in the main building.

It is about 3 blocks from York Minster, with flat and level streets to walk there; worth considering in case anyone in your party has a little trouble walking. Directly across the street from the hotel is a small grocery/convenience store, handy for picking up snacks or sandwiches. I would expect the rate to be 79 to 129 pounds per night depending on the room type you choose.
Dean Court Hotel, Best Western Premier Collection, is right across the street from York Minster. Can't be beat for convenience to walk to all the sights. However, I don't know about their parking situation, as we did not have a car when we were there.
We were looking at “The Minster Walk” guest house.
The Minster Walk looks wonderful!

I love the location of it.
Down a quiet lane, very close to The Minster Hotel, York Minster, and Yorkshire Museum.
Looks cosy and unique.
I like that it's kind of a pub with rooms, and you can have a pint and a pizza downstairs.
I would definitely book this.
Full disclosure: I haven't stayed there, but it looks good, and I'll definitely be staying there in the future.
Which hotel do you think is £650 a night? The Lawrence appears to be around £250 a night in mid June. By no means the cheapest but hardly exceptional these days either.
I would highly recommend the Galtres Lodge Hotel, it’s a five minute walk to the York Minster and a five minute walk to the Shambles.
Me bad. Sorry about the rant. I looked closer, and saw this was a total and not nightly. The Lawrence in York looks very convenient and good, as suggested.
Thank you all for your input.
We have settled on the Minster Walk B&B . Looks like it’s close to the things we want to see without driving.
We stayed at The Minster Hotel, walking distance from the gate to the city. Great location, nice hotel with parking and great food.
