A theater question

I've never been to the theater in London (despite having been there 3x). I'm a big fan of David Tennant, and I'm wondering how would I go about finding out if he will be in any plays in London at the time when I'll be there (tentatively late May '16)?

Thank you!

Looks like this will be the place to find the info

and we learned last week that the Globe Theatre really IS an open-air theatre, dress warmly! We were lucky in the better seats and they loaned us blankets, my daughter would have been buying out the gift shop's stock of hoodies at intermission otherwise :)

Thank you so much!
And thanks for the tips on the chilliness factor!

I imagine that Mr Tennant has a website where announcements such as, he's going to be in a play directed by so-and-so, would be announced. (And a quick Google search confirmed this.)

Once you know your travel dates, it's worth keeping an eye on the websites for the theatres, or subscribing to their e-mail lists, for season and ticket sale announcements and so forth. That way if there is something you really want to see, you won't miss out on getting tickets. For our trip this October, we bought several of our theatre tickets the day they went on sale to the public.

Theatres you might enjoy include, but are not limited to: the Globe (both the outdoor productions and the indoor ones at the Wanamaker), the National Theatre, the Almeida, Old Vic, Young Vic, Trafalgar Studios, the Barbican, and the Donmar Warehouse. There are many, many more.

I know he's going to be in Richard II at the Barbican in January, with the RSC, but that doesn't help you. Hope you are able to find something you will enjoy.

And yes, the Globe's outdoor theatre really is open-air, so dress accordingly. I'd go for the groundling (standing) ticket myself, as I don't mind standing and it's a bargain (five pounds), but if you get seats, definitely rent the cushions.

Thank you!
I probably would want the seats and cushions too! (not as young as I used to be) ;)

Sandra, regarding the Globe: my aunt and I both have intermittent back problems, hers are generally worse. We went to the Globe on our trip last fall and bought two standing tickets and two seated tickets. My aunt sat for the entire performance, I stood for the entire performance, and my husband and cousin took turns standing and sitting.

My back was fine (I'm more comfortable standing than sitting in an uncomfortable seat, though). My aunt thought the seats were not terribly comfortable but don't think she suffered ill effects. My husband and cousin didn't comment on the comfort of the seats that I can recall, but did say they preferred standing for the atmosphere/experience.

So it's definitely down to your preference and what will work for you. My limited experience with the Globe's website seems to indicate that seats generally sell out before the yard/standing tickets do. If you go to their website, and look at a particular performance's seating chart, it will tell you how many seats are left in each section, if you hover your mouse over the picture.

Another tip regarding seating at the Globe: seats in the back row of the sections will have a back to them. I was lucky to get one and was quite comfortable throughout the show, even without a seat cushion.

Gosh Nigel, you mean someone with the forum name starting with onlinemarketing is a scammer? I'm shocked, lol.
