You may or may not have seen the recent press stories about some guy who got planning permission to open a museum of "women's history" in the East End of London and opened a pathetically lowbrow Jack the Ripper "museum" instead.
I know most people here would recognise it as a tourist trap, but don't visit even to point and laugh, because the guy who runs it has lied to and insulted the local community.
Philip, I'm sure you didn't mean it like this, but the link you have put up allowed me about 5 seconds to view the first paragraph of the story then took over my browser tab to show a full screen motion ad about converse trainers and then wouldn't give the tab back.

I've not been to the London Dungeon myself, but seen many reviews where people really liked it, not what I'd be doing if I were visiting London though.

A family I know went last year, consisted of a 15, 20 (something), 54 and a 61 year old, they all said that they enjoyed it. When I asked if they had gone to the Tower of London or the British Museum the reply from all of them was "what do we want to go and see that old rubbish for, that's not exciting". Makes me shudder, it's almost like living in a country that has brewing industry that's over 600 years old and people go into a pub and order Budwiser or Fosters or some other putrid lager!!
I've not been to the Dungeon but I understand kids like it because, well, they're kids. Better gross, for want of a better word, but true exhibits can be seen at the Clink museum and the Old Operation Theatre museum.
My favorite part was when the head of the museum said he would be concentrating the exhibits on "how women got to be in that predicament in the first place." Because everybody knows the best way to not be mutilated by a psycho killer is to not be poor and/or a prostitute and/or a woman.
