90th Birthday Celebrations Queen Elizabeth

Queen's 90th: What's happening and when?
21 April - The Queen will unveil a plaque on Windsor's Queen's Walkway, before lighting the first of a chain of beacons. Gun salutes will also be held across the UK
12-15 May - Celebrations featuring hundreds of horses and performers in the grounds of Windsor Castle
10 June - A national service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral
11 June - The annual Trooping the Colour at Horse Guards Parade
12 June - The Queen will host a street party for 10,000 people in the Mall

Posting this info I found on the BBC website. Nobody does pomp and circumstance better than the British so if in London or at Windsor during any of these ceremonies be prepared for large, respectful and exuberant crowds. God Save The Queen!

I remember watching her coronation on our early black and white TV in New Jersey. (The coronation was in London, I was in New Jersey, just to clarify!) People were watching the procession with periscopes from back on the sidewalks, I'd never seen such contraptions. She seemed so small to have that enormous crown put on her head. But then I learned that she doesn't have to wear it all the time.

Lots of water under the bridge since then, lots of ups and downs for the monarchy, mostly downs, but she's carried on and earned the respect of us all, not just her countrymen/women. God save her.

We will be there in May ( all of it) and I would love to see the horses.

I think I recall reading that the Siena Palio horses were invited but they declined.

I'll be in London 5-12 June. I guess I shouldn't plan to visit St. Paul's on 10 June, eh?

Thanks, Claudia! I agree, the British are by far the best at pomp and circumstance. The Diamond Jubilee celebration in 2012, complete with a boat flotilla on the Thames, is something I'll never forget witnessing first-hand. Would love to see some of the things on your list! Have fun if you are attending.

The 100 year commemorations of events from World War I are also on tap this year. My sister will be attending the special service for the Battle of Jutland (along with the Queen) near the end of May. Participants (descendants of British sailors who fought) were invited by the British Government.
