The Coronation is set.
Here's a link to the story from the Guardian
I think he could have chosen to be King Arthur, (one of his names) that would have been way cool.
Now people can stop worring about if they was going to be in London during the coronation. Personally, I wasn’t worried about if I’m going to be there in London during the coronation.. Just go with the flow.
Except that accommodation prices might be really high?
Thank you Nigel and Kim.
Well, I guessed wrong and I have plane tickets and hotel booked for the first week in June. Can't change it, can't take my daughter out of school for a week. But it's okay, we'll enjoy ourselves anyway, can't wait!
Would have been cool to be there but we'll be flying home on the 5th from Amsterdam to attend a wedding on the 6th ... oh well, I took a shot, time to cancel the reservation ...
It is interesting to see how differently we all react to this. My response was, “whew, my flight out of London is on April 29th. I’m getting out just in time.”
Nigel,
Thanks for posting as this information may be of help to those who are planning to be in England at that time. It will be interesting to see whether the pomp & ceremony is toned down a bit, as there's been some criticism of that recently.
Except that accommodation prices might be really high?
Yep, Just looked at the hotel I booked the day this was announced. I used reward points for 2 nights and paid about $250 for the third night. No reward point rooms offered and the cash rate is now over $600.
This seems to be causing a bit of controversy.....

Thanks Ken for the link.
I think a 4 yr old’s birthday celebration can be delayed a few days for the Coronation…
Master Archie’s birthday be delayed because of the coronation?? LOL. His parents had to have a birthday party for their daughter in the middle of the queens jubilee so they could act put out when the royal family didn’t come. I can only imagine what they can do with this event
Interesting. I will be in Scotland on that day.
Nigel,
I will be traveling from Bath to London on Monday May 8. I want to stay at an airport hotel near Heathrow as I fly home on Tuesday May 9. Do you have any recommendations for a hotel room, about 100-150£?
no, sorry, I don't stay in hotels in London because I am nearby
I have used the Premier Inn at T4 several times. It's fairly new and was closed for an extended period during the pandemic when that terminal wasn't in use. I've found it perfectly fine, and it is usually very reasonably priced; just be sure you choose the refundable rate in case your plans change. It's a bit of a walk (10 minutes?) from Terminal 4 through a covered (but not 100% enclosed, I think), elevated walkway. I think the cheap room rates are due to the size of the hotel and the difficult they were having, even pre-pandemic, keeping the occupancy level up.
I just checked, and the Flex rate for a standard room on the night of May 8 is currently 62 GBP. That rate is likely to increase a fair amount as your travel date gets closer, so I'd recommend booking now. I had to cancel some Premier Inn stays this year as I tweaked my itinerary, and it was very easy to do on the corporate website.
acraven,
thanks for this information. According to my Delta App my flight is Virgin Atlantic from T3 Heathrow. The Premier Inn website says it's 3 miles to 5 miles from the Inn to the Terminal. Am I reading this correctly? If it is 3 miles to the Terminal, I don't want to walk that far. What transport is available? Can the hotel call me a taxi? Or is this a hotel with no person at the front desk?
I take it there are restaurants near the hotel?
There is a Hilton Garden Inn sort of adjacent to Terminal 2.
It's a 5-10 minute walk underground from T3 to T2. To find the hotel, walk through the center of the car park (parking garage) next to T2 and you will find the hotel. It's on level 2.
I stayed there on Tuesday. It's clean and quiet.
To get from T4 to T3, you can take the tube between terminals. It's free.
Frank II, thanks for your recommendation! I will look into the Hilton Garden Inn.
Unfortunately he's specifically picked the Saturday before the May Day public holiday so we won't get an extra public holiday.
Yes, this is causing real resentment in Britain.
We actually will be "in-country" during the Coronation. Found cheap airfare on Delta, late April to mid-May, so we took it.
Really do not expect there to be much impact on us, will not be in London that weekend (really, will not be in London at all, except until just before the flight out). I suspect there may be a few more people glued to the tv that afternoon, not us, unless we happening to be having a pint in a pub.
