58 Days, Getting Close!

Our trip starts in 58 days! Two weeks (and a bit) to explore the land of my dreams!

All accomodations are booked. Car has been reserved. Tickets to Harry Potter Studio Tour purchased.
Still need to purchase tickets to the theatre (Six! at the Vaudeville).
Still need to book trains. (This part terrifies me for some reason)
Still need to nail down the entries we want to buy in advance (Stonehenge, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Rooms), but think I'll wait until we are closer.

I am so excited, and so thankful for all the help I've received here.

Do you know which train lines you will use? My recommendation is to download the apps for the appropriate line and book on that if you are comfortable doing things on your phone.

I just looked at Westminster Abbey and Churchill War Rooms ticketing and it looks pretty open right now. I'd probably start monitoring the ticketing sites soon and make sure your dates are not getting booked. There are a few days in Sept that Westminster Abbey is closed to visitors (blocked in red on the ticket purchase site).

You are going to have so much fun!

Very exciting! I just booked trains for our trip in 31 days. It's pretty easy with the guidance of the forum posts.

How exciting for you! You will love SIX!. I saw the play in September.
Relax about the trains. Give yourself plenty of time to find the station and track so you don't stress and panic. If you aren't sure where to go, ask the locals or anyone standing around looking less confused than you. Then sit back and enjoy the view.
I usually book entertainment/sight tickets early so I know I can see what I want.

If you haven't downloaded apps, be sure you do so. It's so much easier. Also have Apple Wallet with your CC, so much easier than pulling out your credit card all the time. Works great for the tube.
Have a great trip!

I love that feeling of getting close to the departure date when you start the countdown and the final list of To Do's!

Some train operators are already open for booking. Everyone 'should' be open 8 weeks out (or 56 days), unless there is major engineering.
For instance LNER is struggling to allow bookings for September weekends currently (within the 56 day window) due to late confirmation of work by Network Rail, and struggles to charter enough replacement road coaches.
LNER is the best train company website for all UK railway bookings for North Americans. But I am working closely with a forum member currently who is finding that Northern Rail also works brilliantly for Canadians and is a very intuitive site. A lot of the other sites tend to be glitchy with overseas cards.
On Northern Rail you are also able to use PayPal for your purchases.
Northern for instance open exactly 56 days out, on a rolling daily basis, at exactly 0001 UK time. I tested that with someone last night and it really was at 0001 that tickets were released for 56 days time!

We are excited too as we will be spending 11 days in London and 3 nights in Bath in 64 days. But, why wait to book? I gotta tell ya, I have had my Tower tickets, my Westminster Abbey tickets and SIX tickets booked for weeks! Also, a food tour and my train tickets to Bath and Churchill War room tickets. I would not delay too long!

How fun!

I'm surprised you already have Westminster Abbey tickets, as they aren't yet available the week we are in London (October 1-7).

I'm just trying to work out what to do on which days, and it's sort of overwhelming!

The city center isn’t that large. You can easily walk from Parliament Square over to the Churchill War Rooms and from there up Birdcage walk up to the Palace.

From there walk up Constitutional Hill past the Wellington Arch up to Piccadilly and turn left. 25 minutes later after passing Harvey Nichols turn left and on to Brompton Road. Stop at Harrod’s Food Hall. From there walk to the V & A Museum.

Easy peasy day out.

I wouldn't class that as the city centre these days Claudia, unless you're talking about the City of Westminster & Chelsea. None of that walk goes into the City of London which has just as strong a case for being the centre. And for me is the more interesting place to stay.

I stand corrected re City Center.

It’s still a good walk and introduction to London.

I always stay elsewhere anyhow. Usually Richmond.

Moving on.

In truth Claudia, so do I, although my reason is son, daughter-in-law and now granddaughter living in Forest Gate, just east of Stratford with free accommodation!
