50 pound visitor Oyster cards

Hello,

my wife and I leave for London tomorrow... we have 50 pound visitor Oyster cards. we also have Gatwick express cards--ie, we won't use the Oyster for the Gatwick journeys. I KNOW much depends on use--but I curious to know how long will those50 pound cards last

On Wed, 6 June is out real start-- we will go to 4 places "connect the dots" by Tube. Then, all thursday, train to Canterbury--Oyster only to get to the rail station and back Friday, London. 4-5 places bus or tube "connect the dots/attractions" Sat. the V and A, Natural history, and science museums, all day, mostly just tube to get there and back-- Sunday, bus tour to Cotswolds, again, just to get to rendezvous place and back-- Monday, Warwick castle, oyster just to get to the trains station and back-- Tuesday Greenwich "go and come back" and wed--last full day-- random places as a final "look about"

That’s about $ 67 US Dollars. That’s a lot. I can’t imagine using that much for a tourist trip.

I think that you will have more than enough. Just make sure to 'cash out' your card before boarding your plane.

The "daily cap" for Zone 1, i.e. the maximum you will pay using an Oyster card for the tube within zone 1, is £6.80 per day. All the trips you describe are in zone 1. Buses cost £1.50 per trip, with a daily cap of £4.50. With 8 days, I guess £50 is about right. If you run short, you can top up the card, and if you have excess you can get a refund.
When you use he card, a small display shows how much you have left.

Tube fares are listed here: http://content.tfl.gov.uk/adult-fares-2018.pdf

The title got me laughing as an involuntary image of you carrying around an extremely heavy Oyster Card came to mind:)

We have just returned from a ten day holiday in London. We used our Oyster card everyday, all day. The posting by Chris F. Is spot on. There is a maximum cap on how much is deducted from your Oyster card for your travels on a daily basis. It looks like you will have enough for your trip. We spent about £47 for our ten day trip. Even if you don’t, it is really easy to add amounts to your card using the machines in the stations.

Have Fun!

Very impressive shellfish for sure.

When I was in Orkney, we enjoyed some large scallops, those were maybe a pound or so each, and delicious. I was impressed with those, but OP is talking about some seriously big clams here...

Or maybe it's a transportation card for teeny (50-pound) travelers ??

I would guess that you would have more than enough. Even if you topped out everyday(looks like on a couple you will not) it would total just over 40 pound. Check into policies for refund of fare and the Oyster card deposit.

We spent 8 days in London last fall and used the cards every day ( including the train out to Watford Jct), and still had money left on our cards. We only put 35GBP on them, so I think you'll be fine.
