Greetings all! We are narrowing down our choices for lodging and I think I will stay in Cirencester for 5 nights as a base. Does anyone have lodging recommendations for town center. Were you pleased with using this as a base? If not, what do you wish you had done?
Thank you!
There is a conveniently located Premier Travel Inn in Cirencester . A reasonably priced chain , the rooms are always predictably pleasant , clean , and reliable . When in The UK , they are usually my first choice . I assume you will have a car ? https://www.google.com/maps/place/Premier+Inn+Cirencester/@51.7131756,-1.9549625,14.21z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4871150a5f7c0e1b:0x58c14e496ddbd2d0!8m2!3d51.707611!4d-1.9542859
Yes, we will have a car. Thank you! I will check this out.
Also check out the Travelodge in Cirencester. It is a newish building but you will note that it is made out of Cotswold stone - this being the Cotswolds! https://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/86/Cirencester-hotel
Cirencester makes an excellent central base. If you did find a property in the centre of the town, parking is likely to be an issue as it has narrow streets = VERY OLD!
IF you make day trips down to Bath or east to Oxford - I suggest you use one of the Park & Rides that you will find on the outskirts. (Large car parks where you leave the car & take shuttle buses into the centre).
We loved Cirencester. Enjoyed the Roman museum there. The city is at the southern end of the Cotswolds. We stayed in Chipping Campden and loved it. Rick Steves has a suggested route to visit all the towns and cities in his Great Britain guide.
Once again, this forum rocks! Still my first stop in my trip planning process ( after some research on my own).. We have been to England before, just not to this area. We traveled via train and bus last time. Oxford, York, London. This time we will have a car. We survived our trip to Ireland with all of our mirrors intact, so, hubby feels ok with driving. I'm sure I will have more questions,as travel time approaches.
There is really a lot to see and do in and near Cirencester. While not usually on most people's radar it is well positioned. Not far is the music museum on the Fosse Way, Bath is closer, but so is Prince Charles' place and all sorts of cool stuff.
Like trees? no prob. Like gardens? no prob. Like large estates? no prob.
good choice
Just curious, Nigel, where is Prince Charles' place?
Prince Charles home is Highgrove located near Tetbury.
