4 Night in Cotswold in the Middle of June: Accomodations Recommended

Hi all,

My wife and I would be spending 4 nights in Cotswold but we cant decide where to base ourselves. I understand that almost all of cotswold is a great place to base ourselves..hence the dilemma LOL

Requirements:
1.) Our budget is between GBP200-GBP250/Night
2.)We would like to stay in an area that is not too touristy or awash with tour buses but yet not entirely secluded (no shops/pubs/pretty stalls lol)
3.) Ability to walk around at night to enjoy the charms of the village
4.) Good Local Food!

Other "potential" considerations
1.) We would be coming up from London and would be renting a car..probably at Oxford?
2.) We will need to return the car at the end of our stay and head back to London to catch a train to Amsterdam.

Appreciate any help!

I haven’t been for a while, but The Old Swan in Minster Lovell may suit. Handy for Oxford, Blenheim Palace, Burford, Bourton on the Water on Stow on the Wold. Lovely walks around the village including the old hall.

If you want to avoid staying in tourist hotspots, avoid the villages that I have just mentioned plus Broadway, Chipping Campden and The Slaughters.

Winchcombe.

There’s nearby Sudley Castle. Small but enjoyable Winchcombe Museum. 3 different pubs. I liked the Plaisterers Arms. St Peter’s church and graveyard. Honey Bea’s Cafe.

A short drive away was the welcoming Snowhill Arms.

Snowhill was everything I’d ever envisioned for an English village. I’d driven over from Winchcombe as I wanted to see St Barnabas Church and its surrounding grave yard.

One day hiked the trail to Belas Knapp Long Barrow. Saw nary except a soul except for some sheep.

Discovered and ate lunch at The Plough in Ford. Very good.

We stayed at The Arden hotel in Stratford Upon Avon. Good location and free parking. Many popular villages (e.g., Bourton on the Water, Stow on Wold, Chipping Campden, Lower Slaughter, Broadway, etc.) are within a 40 minutes drive. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants, but in June I doubt you’ll get away from other tourists. In late May 2019 we paid 125£ per night with included breakfast.

My husband and I have stayed in Blockley. It is the site used in filming Father Brown. (We didn't know about this at the time.) We had a rental car, but there is a walkable trail to Morton in Marsh. We rented Ratty's Retreat, a cute one bedroom holiday cottage. I just did a Google search, it seems to have been updated since we stayed.

So hard choosing where best to stay in the Cotswolds - it's quite spread out. I specialise in going my visitors to out of the way locations, away from coaches and groups. My favourite village in the Cotswolds - which is a secret, but I will share with you - don't tell anyone! ;-) - is Filkins. Stay here: https://thefiveallsfilkins.co.uk/stay

Or you could try Clanfield, near Bampton. The inn here is called The Double Red Duke and serves most incredible food. Nice walks, pretty village, another pub to explore. https://www.countrycreatures.com/double-red-duke
