38 mile walk along the Northumberland coast

This is one for those who love Northumberland...

There are many existing coastal footpaths and they are gradually being linked to form a new trail around the coast of England. Known as the King Charles III Coastal Path, it celebrates the coronation of King Charles. When complete it will be around 2700 miles long and will be the longest managed coastal path in the world. The 38 mile stretch along the Northumberland coast opened in August 2023. It doesn’t seem to have been mentioned on the forum yet, so I was wanting to flag it up. It looks to be a stunning walk.

Wow, that’s going to be quite stroll, once everything’s connected and completed. Wouldn’t it be something if Charles himself hiked a good part of it?

Just looking at a Northumberland County Council press release- this is part of a continuous 245 mile section now open from Bridlington to the Scottish Border.

I am going to suggest it to a forum member who PM'd me to say that she is going to the HF at Alnmouth this weekend, and was looking for ideas.

What a great article Wasleys! Thanks for the links. I love the imagery in the first article, lol.

Last May I walked just a couple of miles from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle and a little beyond. It was a Sunday afternoon and all the dogs were out walking their owners. Not crowded but way more people than I thought might be out enjoying the sunshine. So good to see! I stopped by a WWII pill box looking out across the North Sea and my mind was boggled when I realized I could look toward the mainland of Europe from where came Vikings, looked to my right and saw the 14C ruins of a medieval castle, continued my circle and saw a modern day golf links and wound up facing the WWII pill box where watchers scanned the seas for signs of a German invasion. SO many years of history in a 180 turn. Amazing. Plus all the bird life!

The Craster to Dunstanburgh walk is wonderful and such easy walking too. I have osteoarthritis in both knees and my days of serious walking are over, but I can manage this walk!

That’s a great article, wasleys! Thanks for sharing it. Pam, I really wanted to walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle but the only day I could get there it was raining in the afternoon so I wasn’t able to. But just one more reason to come back!
