3-4 days in England

My husband and I are going to England, Ireland, and Scotland for 2 weeks next May. The majority of our trip will be spent in Ireland and Scotland but we start off in England. We only have 3, maybe 4 days before heading over to Ireland. One of our must see’s is Stonehenge. I see there are tour buses that go there. Should we do a tour bus or rent a car? What else should be on our itinerary for England? We have some ideas for Ireland and Scotland but would appreciate any suggestions.

You could also do a one day bus tour of London, or "hop on hop off" bus.
Yes Stonehenge is a must see (I agree)
There are several tours avail. with different companies and if you are short on time and don't want to drive .......

Happy travels - you are going to really enjoy your trip.

I like tours because I didn't enjoy driving (on the other side of the road and car) and trying to see sites at the same time.)
Parking is another issue to consider.

Just be aware Viator is not a tour provider, it is a tour consolidator...so they sell other people’s tours. See if you can find the actual companies that provide the tours. The price might be better and you’ll know for sure you have a reservation.

If you decide to do it yourself you can easily take a train to Salisbury. The local bus company runs a hop on hop off bus out to Stonehenge which also stops at Old Sarum on the way back. They pick up right at the rail station. It’s called a tour but it really isn’t. It does have some recorded commentary but it’s mostly transport.

No need to drive.

Within your timeframe, I would stay in London if you haven’t been before and do a day trip to Stonehenge either an organised trip from London or take the train to Salisbury then a bus to Stonehenge, which is easy to do.

Itinerary ideas

Buckingham Palace
Houses of Parliament
St Paul’s
Westminister Abbey
Most of the museums are free as are the art galleries
British Library
Kew Gardens
Greenwich Observatory
River cruise
London Eye
Churchill War Rooms
Tower of London
Hampton Court
Take a guided walk
Walk the Royal Parks
Windsor
Get out to see some countryside

We have used Viator and never been disappointed. Sometimes it is hard to find the actual firms that provide the tours, but Viator doesn't charge much above what they cost.

For 3 or 4 days, I suggest staying in the SW of England.

Windsor Castle
Salisbury
Stonehenge
Avebury
Bath

If you have more time add
Blenheim Palace
Oxford
Stratford Upon Avon (especially if you love Shakespeare)
