I'm arriving to London this weekend and having 24hours time to explore things in London....So can anyone suggest me some interesting things to do in this weekend..
A little more info would be helpful. Have you been before? What have you seen? What do you enjoy to do while traveling? Do you have sleeping accommodations somewhere? More info from you will get you better responses here.
Without knowing you, go to the web, search "sights in London." It is an amazing city and the things l like (e.g., the Sherlock Holmes Museum) may not be for you. If you end up with more specific questions, I or others here would be happy to try and answer them.
Moving around some areas of the city could be difficult this weekend because of Obama's visit---streets may be blocked, especially around Buckingham Palace, Whitehall area, etc. locals are suggesting using the Tube rather than bus or taxi.
Where are you spending the night? Near the airport or in London?
The London Marathon too on Sunday will put some constraints on normal movement.
Now for me Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London and Tower Bridge are a must for quick visit if first time. The BM would be on the list for a 2nd or longer visit.
Take the tube From wherever you are staying to the Westminster stop. Exit and follow signs to EXIT 1. As you walk out from the station the docks for Thames River cruises will be in front of you. To your left and across the Thames you'll see the London Eye, to your right you'll see Westminster Bridge. Turn fully to your right and look up. Smile. Climb the steps and start your visit there. This is Parliament Square. From here after snapping images of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, touring Westminster Abbey you have two great options for a nice walk. If you wish to see Buckingham Palace walk along Birdcage Walk thru St James Park to the Palace. From there walk thru Green Park to Piccadilly and explore SoHo on foot. OR
From Parliament Square walk up Whitehall past the Horse Guards, number 10 Downing to Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery and St. martins of The Fields. From here its an easy walk into Covent Garden.
My suggestion is to use the satellite images on Google Maps. Have a list of what you'd like to see during your quick visit and see how close or far they are from one another. I do think seeing Parliament Square is a slam dunk as its the iconic London visitors have in their minds eye. Most museums are free and by using the tube you can cover distances in a comfortable amount of time. Enjoy your few hours.
