2 nights in London

Hello all!
I’m traveling with my Mom, sister and 2 daughters in on November. I’m trying to find a clean, secure and lovely hotel that isn’t $500 per night. Does anyone have recommendations for a quaint, clean hotel in the middle of London, for less than $250 per room per night? I’d love to be between Tower Bridge and Kensington Thanks!

Sadly I'm not sure that budget (which is about £185 a night assuming USD) will get you 'lovely', but it will get you a good size, clean room. Secure goes without saying in London.

I can recommend The Thistle Holborn. Nice hotel, and their smaller rooms (16 sqm) are within your budget - about £172 a night.

But there are hundreds of cheaper hotels in central London, so I'm sure you will get other recommendations.

Take a look at The Resident Victoria. Great location, easy walk to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Victoria Station and the St. James Park tube stop for the Circle and District Lines. Lots of pubs and restaurants nearby.

Are your daughters children or adults? How many rooms are you looking to book?

$250 is about 185 GBP. You could probably find a room at a Premier Inn for this price, but their rooms accommodate a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children under 16. You would need 2 to 3 rooms. Their hotels are clean but not quaint.

Thanks for the feedback! I will have 3 adults and 2 kids (10 years and 12 years)- If I'm reading these replies correctly, you're saying my budget isn't reasonable for the experience I would like?

You might try booking.com for your dates and see what’s available in your perimeters then come back with questions on specific properties.

Maggie - what is being said is that your budget is very much on the low side for central London. You will get a clean and safe hotel for that sort of money but it won’t be in any sense luxurious. Clearly we don’t know exactly what expectations you had. Premier Inns are a good benchmark - clean, safe, well organised but not posh hotels available across London. You won’t find them on booking.com.

hey hey maggiehamilton230
as others have posted your budget is very low for 5 people. it's a big, busy, crowded, expensive city and great place with many things to see and do. what are your dates in november? look at beds in room, sofa bed is small with legs hanging over edge, 2 rooms better with a bathroom each, also maximum in room.
check booking.com, premiereinn.com. cherrycourthotel.co.uk (niece stayed here few years ago with 2 teenagers, room was small)
if you see something, ask here and contact hotel (email/call) directly.
don't know what your other plans are to see within london
wowcher.co.uk
register with email, check the headers with offers for 2 for 1
walks.com
click on days and see what is offered on each day
another tip: check-in times 3-4pm check-out times 10-11am, unless you ask for early check-in. most hotels have luggage storage till check-in to roam around until then. have a great time and enjoy
aloha

Based on the additional info you provided, I’d check the following options:
1) Two rooms at a Premier Inn (one room for 1 adult and 2 children and a second for 2 adults). This is one of the lower price hotel chains and it is generally a good value. That will give you a baseline for what you can expect to pay. You might find something for less than the price of a Premier Inn, but if you go with a hotel you will need at least 2 rooms. I checked a random date in November and I see some Premier Inns in London where you can get two rooms for under 300 GBP total (about 150 GBP per room per night) a night and I think that is a pretty competitive price for London.
2) Check aparthotels to see if you can find a place that accommodates 3 adults and 2 children
3) Check booking.com with the details of your party.

Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, come back for opinions.

I'm currently looking at these 3 hotels in London:
1) Premier Inn Blackfriar
2) Park Plaza Westminster or County Hall
3)Premier Inn London County Hall or Waterloo

We would like to visit the Hyde Park Christmas Market, and also see St.Pauls, The Tower of London, Westminster, Churchhill War Rooms and Kennsington Palace. I'm trying to decide if it's better to be more central (Blackfriar) or closer to Hyde Park/Big Ben area since that is the majorty of our sight seeing spots?

I’ve stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall and recommend it. It’s a great location for getting to Westminster, which is a quick walk over the bridge, and many other sites. Plus it’s near the Waterloo station and the Westminster tube station. The hotel itself was fine. Rooms are clean and the service is good. They have breakfast available, although it is not included in the price. But you have your choice of a continental or a full cooked breakfast and you can decide each day if you want that or if you prefer to go out.

There are lots of local places nearby where you can get something to eat quickly. There is an M&S Foods, which is like a small convenience store, and Gail‘s Bakery which has wonderful takeaway food, including great breakfast items (their Pain au Chocolat is wonderful!).

From the PI Blackfriars St Paul's is a few minutes walk, Blackfriars Tube is a short distance, and everything else (except Kensington Palace) is a direct tube journey on the District/Circle Line. Kensington Palace is the Circle then Central Line.

Also all but Kensington Palace is a direct London bus journey.

Apart from that I doubt either of the two PI's makes that much difference.

St Paul's to Kensington is a direct journey on the Central Line.

I stayed at the Premier Inn Blackfriars this spring and enjoyed it. It is in a centrl location with lot of transportation options nearby, along with two grocery stores for snacks and lunch supplies if you're interested. The room doesn't scream "you're in London!", but it was very clean and convenient.

If you stay just outside Central London, you should find things cheaper. It is very easy and cheap to get around using the tube.
An example would be the Premier Inn at Hammersmith (Talgarth Road). You should get two rooms for around £85 each per night.
Even if you stayed in the centre, you would still need to use transport to get to the sights.

Maggie, several of us here have experience staying at Number 63. It’s across the street (Bayswater Road) from Hyde Park at Lancaster Gate. It’s an old school B&B type, so no frills, but they do have a family room and a suite. Punch in your dates to see what rooms are available. It’s a townhouse with a decent (mostly continental) breakfast in the lower level. It’s clean but not fancy. Small lift. Some rooms require walking up two or three steps.

Good luck with your search!

I’ve never stayed at the H&F but have had a good meal at The Cumberland Arms in that neighborhood. In case you decide on it and are looking for nearby pubs to visit.
