2 Long Layovers - Day trip to London???

Hi everyone! I am traveling to Romania this Tuesday and have a 10 hour layover during the day at Heathrow (LHR). I've been to London once before but would love to take a train into the city and grab lunch, maybe tea, and see anything I have time to! I welcome any suggestions about travel - my current plan is to take the Heathrow Underground into the city. I would also love recommendations about a good pub or restaurant! Lastly, what should I see? I was thinking about trying to walk to the Globe, I missed it last time.
On my return I have a 12 hour red-eye layover - should I consider going into Brighton for a few hours then grab a hotel room at Heathrow? I'd love advice on this, too!
Thanks very much in advance!!!

MatrixITASoftware.com indicates flying from Indy to Romania is a relatively expensive flight.
And unfortunately, the Midwest is not being serviced by budget international airlines to Europe.
If you've got to pay big money to get to Romania, you really shouldn't have to experience 10 or 12 hour layovers.

The cheapest airfare is not always the best value if unreasonable time on the ground is considered.

I would suggest taking the Heathrow Express, little more expensive but a lot faster. Two pubs that I enjoy are The Swan on Bayswater Road across the street from Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park and Sherlock Holmes on Northumberland Street a three minute walk from Trafalgar Square. A good place to have tea is The Orangery at Kensington Palace it's beautiful inside. It's hard to say what to see not knowing your interests.

Thank you, this is very helpful. My interests include museums, gardens, literature, and the arts. I have seen the Gallery and the Imperial War Museum on a previous visit.

Agree Heathrow Express. Pricey? It is but gets you into Paddington Station in 15 minutes as opposed to nearly an hours ride on the tube.

From Paddington walk through the Bayswater neighborhood over to Portobello Road in Nottinghill. 25 minute walk at most. Lots of shops, cafes, pubs and some vendors on a Tuesday. A lovely pub ( one of my favorites) is The Castle on Holland Park road which is about a 15 minute walk from Portobello.

From there hop on the tube and head off to see a museum or two.
