2 for 1 tickets for Westminster Abbey

Hello everyone. My daughter and I arrive in London on March 29th. We had planned on purchasing a 7 day paper Travelcard in order to take advantage of the 2 for 1 admissions for Kensington Palace, Hampton Court, and Westminster Abbey as well as all of our tube travel. Even though we are only visiting 3 places we felt the savings well worth the cost of the Travelcard.

Out of all the places we are interested in visiting only Westminster Abbey has restrictive dates on its 2 for 1 voucher. The voucher states that it is good from November 1- March 31 and then again on April 24 to May 31. For All of the other places the offer expires on the 30th of April and have no other date restrictions. I assume there is some event at Westminster causing that restriction.

Unless we go to Westminster by the 31st it might not make any sense to purchase the Travelcard. We have already committed to plans on our first full day (30th) and the morning of the 31st.
How much time should we allow to visit Westminster? We want to allow enough time there and do not want to feel rushed.

Thanks,
Donna

You could spend all day! But I think 3 hours is more than enough for your purposes. Well worth the visit.

Thanks Mulhall. We'll plan our visit using that timeframe. And Emma, we forgot about Easter!
Thanks for the advice. It's my first time, not my daughters, and Im very excited about the trip.

Westminster is a city of over a quarter of a million residents.

And an Underground station.

And a bridge.

And part of the name of many roads.

And a cathedral.

And a seat of government.

And a Hall.

As well as an Abbey.

Do all your questions here relate to the Abbey or are some for other parts of Westminster?

You will be well served if you spell out which one you are asking about when you ask for directions in London or you may well be sent to the wrong one.

Hi Nigel. I noted Westminster Abbey in my original post until I got to the 3rd paragraph, then I just noted Westminster. I guess I got a bit lazy toward the end. I tried to be as specific as I could as to not cause any confusion. Sorry for the confusion this caused.

I do understand that Emma and I was trying to do that in my question. I've seen some of the negative responses people can get when posting on travel boards and in no way wanted to be the recipient of one of those responses. I just got lazy in my last paragraph and omitted the Abbey.

I have read a lot on London and am pretty well travelled. I do my best to be well educated about the place I am traveling to and know that shortening names could and will lead to ending up at the wrong place. I don't plan on doing that while I'm there nor in a question if I do ask one again.

I appreciate any and all the advice I get on these boards and will take it to make what I hope to be a great trip even better.

Thanks again.

Sorry for any hurt feelings, Donna - just trying to help.

If you get into Westminster Abbey in any depth I think you could keep going for an easy 2 or 3 hours or if you or your daughter are skimmers or not really interested in English or British history, maybe an hour.

It is probably worth checking the website for Westminster Abbey a day or two ahead of your visit in case any Royal activity is taking place or special or restricted services. It does close, sometimes on short notice, for special needs.

St Pauls Cathedral is my preference because of its historic and architectural uniqueness but Westminster Abbey has probably more to show a tourist, particularly if you have watched Royal events like weddings, funerals and coronations..

Thanks Nigel. I apologize as well. I was being overly sensitive and upon reflection realize that you wanted to help.

My daughter loves Roman History but has recently become more interested in British History and since we lean toward the "skimmers" side I'm thinking a couple of hours would work for us.

Thanks for the advice on checking for events or activity before going. We'll do that. And St Paul's was on our list. Maybe I'll put it more toward the top now.

Thanks again.

Have you been to the Museum of London? There's a really well done section on Roman London that your daughter might enjoy. It's free and if you're going to St Paul's, it's v nearby and well worth a look.

Both St. Paul's and the Museum of London are well worth a visit. We try to visit St. Paul's every time we are in London. Even after a number of visits, I am still moved to tears at the American memorial area.

It may well be on the 2-4-1 offer without date restrictions.

I've said this before, but if you have very limited time in London and could only visit Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's, I would still consider it a successful visit.
