2-4-1 Question

Hello,

I have a question about the 2-4-1 discount. If we're staying in London and using the tube I don't see the point in getting a RR tube in order to take advantage of the discount--unless it includes the tube. We will be a family of 4 (2 teens) so we don't qualify for the "family discounts" I've seen offered--they specify 2 adults and 2 kids. Am I getting this right?

Thanks,
Julie

I presume neither of the two teens count as kids? Or maybe one of them?

Even if you were getting 4 adult admissions for the price of 2 it may still be worth it over 3 adults and one kid.

If one of the children is under 16, buying a paper 7-day travelcard can be the most cost effective & convenient solution anyway, without considering 2-4-1.

Sorry, my question was not clear.
We are a family of 4. Dad, mom, and 18 yr & 17 yr olds.

I was confused about the requirement to buy a Rail ticket which I understood to be different from the Underground/Tube 7 day paper ticket. If someone could answer these questions, it may clear up my confusion.

1) Is the Nation Rail ticket the same thing as a Underground/Tube ticket?

2) Is the TravelCard for the Railroad or the local tube system?
I don't want to buy a more extensive train ticket if all I need is a 1-2 Zone ticket (7 days).

I DO remember reading that I must buy the PAPER train ticket from a railway station and issued on "national rail" paper.

Thanks,
JC

A 7-day Travelcard covers bus, train, underground and tram whether you buy it from National Rail or Transport for London (TfL) and costs the same.

Only National Rail stations sell it in paper form which is a requirement for the 2-4-1 offers though. You can get it this for just Zones 1-2. Don't forget to bring photos for the ID card that goes with it.

Everyone in your group is an adult from transport costs.

Great! Last question: Does the National Rail have a location at London LHR? Can I purchase the paper travelcard at the airport?

No, you can't get the paper travel card that is good for the 2-for-1 deals at Heathrow airport. Just buy a single fare ticket on the tube to get you to your hotel, then go to the closest National Rail Station to buy the travel cards.

Don't forget that you need passport sized (not quality) photos for the 7 day paper travelcards.

It's not publicized, but the 7 paper travel card also gets you head of the line in some places, like Thames cruises.
