18 hr layover in London in late April

I have an 18 hour layover in London in late April. What do you suggest?

I'm booking a hotel at LHR Terminal 5, where my morning flight leaves, but I have from 1pm until mid evening to see things that are interesting. I'd try for a show, but with jetlag, I'm going to pass this time.

Bonus points for interesting, less touristy finds.

I suggest Kew Gardens in Richmond. You can take the Tube there from terminal 5 with just one transfer. It is easy to access from LHR. Another option is to go to Windsor/Windsor Castle which is quite near and an easy taxi ride away. (about 6 miles).

Are you staying at the Soffitel at Terminal 5? This is a "go to" treat for me when I have an overnight layover. It is extremely convenient to the terminal (just a covered walkway away) and to the tube. No waiting for shuttle buses to get back and forth from the hotel to the terminal. There is good signage in the airport directing you to the hotel.

Yes, staying at the Soffitel at Terminal 5. I appreciate the convenience for an early morning flight. I think we'll check the luggage through to our final destination and just have our carry-ons, which we'll drop at the hotel before we leave. Looks like the Heathrow Express is only £5.50 each way if I purchase 90 days in advance. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hopefully the Sofitel’s wonderful restaurant Le Belle Époque has reopened, always a treat to dine there.
Make reservations ahead of your arrival.
