Can anyone recommend a quiet, romantic cafe or restaurant to celebrate a 54 th wedding anniversary in York. Because we are in our 70’s , no nightclubs or sports bars…… It can be casual or fancy….we’ve had afternoon tea at Bettys, would like to try somewhere else.

Congratulations on your 54th! We are probably the same age, but we met late in life so feel fortunate to have reached our 20th.
If you like Spanish food. . . . We enjoyed a nice relaxed evening at Ambiente Tapas Bar, the Goodramgate location. There is another Ambiente at Fossgate, and I believe the menus are different. Although called a tapas “bar”, it is not noisy or boozy.
We made a reservation and asked for a quiet table, and our request was honored. We ordered a number of small plates to share (that is how we like to eat) and a bottle of wine, and it was all very good. But we do favor Spanish food (or Italian) over British.

How much you willing to spend?
Rattle Owl seems to be a foodie favorite. Buongirno
serves wonderful Italian dishes and is well reviewed on TripAdvisor.
