Hi! We're traveling to London in late August and I found a hotel, The Montcalm Royal London House that gets amazing reviews and has the right amount of space for me and my daughter and husband. But, I'm not familar with the area. Is it more workday (with chains and whatnot) or can we find local restaurants, shops, etc.? It's pretty far east and I'm much more familiar with the South Kensington area (which I loved). TIA!
It's in the City - the financial district - close to Liverpool Street station. If the hotel ticks your boxes, I wouldn't have any qualms about staying there. It's a much more business-orientated area than South Ken., but staying in a different location often gives you a new perspective on a familiar city.
Perfectly fine area. Definitely different from S Kensington.
Easy walk/strolls to Spitafields Market, wall murals of Shoreditch, Columbia Flower Market, Museum of Home, to name a few spots.
Nearby food options include Itsu, Truman Brewery the aforementioned Spitalfields, The Flying Horse pub ( pub grub is fine ), Wrap It Up ( burritos), Pret a Manger, Duck and Waffle and Fab Thai Street Food.
Yes a difference from S Kensington. Simply another part of London to explore.
