Beginning a cruise from Southampton....any recommendations for 1 night
Yes, the Ibis is perfect for one night. There is a large shopping mall close by where you can spend some time. Taxi to the dock is a 10 minute ride.
I would.just stay in London or whereever you are prior to the cruise. Our train ride out to Southampton from London was just had a couple of stops and was very quick. Most people don't get to their ships and into their rooms by early afternoon so there is.plenty of time to get there.

We've taken several cruises from Southampton and, as a result, have tried several different hotels --each very different...
The Harbor House in Southampton is lovely - right on the water, with a small indoor spa and pool. Comfortable beds, lovely staff, wonderful restaurant or a 5 minute walk from numerous other restaurants, a block from a bus stop or a 15 minute walk too the West Quay Mall and free transportation to the cruise port (3 minutes away). A pit pricey (for Southampton) but we thought it worth it.
The Ibis. A basic budget hotel, where we experienced bed bugs. Never again...
Premier Southampton. Another basic budget hotel, across from West Quay. Great location, lots of shops and restaurants nearby, basic but comfortable room. The only odd thing is that you never see staff...you book and pay on-line and you're all set...
Regarding Ibis in Southampton, there are two ..... one is Ibis Budget and the other is the better, just plain Ibis. We stayed at the latter and it was perfectly fine, certainly no bugs. Could the above poster tell us which of the two was used, as I think it is unfair not to clarify.
