Review: Hotel Indigo Bath

My friend and I just returned from the UK after spending a lovely week in Bath and London. We stayed at Hotel Indigo on South Parade, just a five minute walk from the Bath Spa train station and the Bath Cathedral. It is a perfect location to see the major sites in Bath and visit the Christmas markets.

Hotel Indigo is part of the IHG family of hotel, but feels more like a proper English hotel. It is in a Georgian building with a lovely small lobby decorated for the holidays, a lounge area for relaxing, an attached restaurant, and a lovely garden/atrium area. We stayed in standard King Room with a small sitting area (really only suited for one person) a large Spa bathroom with walk-in rainfall showers. The room had a complementary mini bar with cokes, orange juice, and water. Also a Nespresso machine and a kettle for tea with a nice selection of English teas and biscuits.

The best thing about the Hotel Indigo was the service. We stayed at the last weekend of the Bath Christmas Market and the concierge James worked with me a month in advance to help arrange travel, book restaurant reservations, and recommend tours.

Sandy, thanks for posting this review.
I'm glad you had a great experience at Hotel Indigo!
How nice to have had the help and recommendations of the concierge!
What restaurants did you go to (if you don't mind me asking) and how did you like them?

I'm with Rebecca...thanks for the review! I've never actually stayed in that area of Bath so it's good to know you had a good experience there! It is near 2 restaurants I have enjoyed...Yak Yeti Yak and The Green Rocket, hahaha!!

@Rebecca: I had high tea at the Pump Room next to the Roman Baths. It is a spectacular spread in an historic location. The had a lovely trio playing music to enjoy along with the tea.

The other restaurants we enjoyed are:

  • Portofino: This is an Italian restaurant, specializing in seafood. It is owned by a local Bath family that also owns Antica (another restaurant highly recommended by the concierge at the hotel). The place is small and cozy. The staff is amazing, we arrived an hour early for our reservations and asked if they could try to fit us in. We had to wait about 15 minutes, and they seated us. I appreciated it given it was the last weekend of the Bath Christmas market.
  • The Green Rocket: this Vegan cafe is a great place for lunch and/or breakfast. The vegetables were so fresh and the Tempeh Caesar salad was so good. The dressing was exactly like a classic Caesar.

Other recommendations from the concierge. I am providing these recommendations as I asked the concierge where he takes his family when they go out. He loves Antica (same family own Portofino), The Architect, and Joya Steakhouse. These were all rated well and were completely booked for the weekend we were there.

Hope this helps.

Sandy, thanks so much! This does help, as Bath is one of my favorite places to visit in England. We will be going back there next spring, so I will try all of them!

I'm so glad you had great experiences at the Pump Room, Portofino, and The Green Rocket!
We have toured the Roman Baths and walked upstairs to see the Pump Room when it was closed. Now I must go back and have their afternoon tea!
Thanks for the mention of all the restaurants that your concierge recommended! That's a gold mine there!

Pam, thanks for the mention of Yak Yeti Yak and The Green Rocket! I will try both of them!
Eating Vegan food is great on a trip......easy on the tummy.

We just booked 5 nights at Brocks Guest House in Bath for Aug. It seemed to have a great location for walking the sites and reasonalbly priced for their smallest room. Was mentioned in Rick Steve’s UK travel guidebook.
