Restaurant near Paddington station

I am looking for a good restaurant to celebrate my sisters birthday before we head out to the airport. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

As I remember, there is not much around Paddington. Use google street view map to take a look.

If you do google the area, you’ll see that there are plenty of restaurants around Paddington, but as I’ve not eaten round there for years, none I can recommend especially for a celebration meal, it’s not that sort of area really, unless you stumble upon a hidden gem.

We often stay the night before our Heathrow flight near Paddington and have dinner there. The two places we like are The Mitre Lancaster Gate, a gastropub, and Italian restaurant Bizzarro.

The Mitre is traditional in style, with various small dining rooms ( separate from the bar itself) and a “modern British” menu.

Bizzarro is closer to the station, and also offers several rooms inside. We were seated in a pleasant room with arched doorways and a nice mural on the wall. The menu is much more extensive than anything we have seen in Italy, but the dishes we chose were done well. Our waiter was indeed Italian, and appreciated that my husband spoke the language.

I suggest making a table reservation at either one.

Bondi Green at Paddington Basin is a good celebration venue. Food is good not amazing but the decor and atmosphere make up for it. Nice setting by the water as well.

What is a modern British menu? An improvement I hope.

I highly recommend The Victoria at 10A Strathearn Pl, Tyburnia, London W2 2NH, United Kingdom. Great food for a pub and seeing the ornate interior alone is worth a visit.

“Modern British” cuisine:

What, then, is the definition of a “Modern British” dish or menu? It is anything that derives proudly and respectfully from this history of collected influences, that is prepared and presented without culinary cringe. If Italian food can be characterised as being “all about the ingredients”, if French food is about tradition, if Japanese food is about simplicity and technique, then Modern British food is about an honest joy in eclecticism and diversity.
