Premier Inn: Holborn or Country Inn

Thanks to the advice from this forum, I think I have narrowed my hotel choices down to either Premier Inn Holborn, or Premier Inn County Hall. Holborn is cheaper, so that does play into my decision. We are looking at hitting all the major attractions, but at the top of the list is the British Museum and Churchill's War Rooms. Any insight would be appreciated!

There isn’t a Premier Inn Country Inn.

Do you have a link to the one you are looking at?

Well one is walking distance from British Museum and one is walking distance to the IWM Churchill War Rooms. Both have excellent public transport nearby. I would probably go County Hall as I like being near the river but the cheaper option may be more attractive.

I can't speak for the Holborn location, but I liked County Hall when I stayed there earlier this year. The location was great and as noted, is right on the river. I loved walking over the bridge in the evening and seeing all the colored lights on. There are some good markets in the area, too, like Gail's Bakery, where you can get good take-away food. There's a Starbucks nearby and an M&S food market. It's close to Waterloo Station and also Westminster Bridge Underground station.

For the reasons of your “ must sees,” go with the PI County Hall. Walk out the door and you are looking at Westminster Bridge, the Thames and the Houses of Parliament. Really lovely POV at night.

Last November spent 5 weeks in the Holborn neighborhood. Really liked. However, not a neighborhood I’d suggest to first time London visitors. But I’ve been visiting since Nixon was in office so no need to revisit the “ sites.”

Will say if looking for an interesting museum check out the Hunterian Museum then stroll over to Seven Stars pub for a meal, a pint and hopefully a visit from the General. Great atmosphere and food.

The Churchill War Rooms are a one-day site. I spent over half a day there, but it seems that most people don't want to read all the information available in the Churchill Museum section. The war rooms themselves don't take a lot of time. My point is that you'll be making only one trip to the CWR.

The British Museum is huge, and the ground floor is so packed the crowds are very likely to slow you down. If you want a good look at all the exhibition halls, you will need to make more than one trip to the British Museum. Therefore, the Holborn Premier Inn might be better for you. It depends on what other things you want to see, etc. For example, the Imperial War Museum is much closer to the County Hall Premier Inn.
