Hello travelers,
I’m looking to stay for one night near London Heathrow airport this August 2026. I’m traveling with my senior aunt who tells me she is planning to bring lots of luggage. Sigh. We are going on a two week cruise out of Portsmouth and I’m thinking to stay one night in Windsor the night before the cruise.
Does anyone have a suggestion for hotels in Windsor? Is there somewhere else that you would recommend to stay 1 overnight rather than Windsor?
I’m also looking for private transport company to take us from Windsor to Portsmouth with the idea of stopping at Stonehenge for my aunt. Any suggestions?
We used Blacklane to get us from Portsmouth to Windsor in 2023. Since you want to stop at Stonehenge, I would go with Daytrip.
We loved the Hotel Castle Windsor,

I will look into Daytrip. Have you used them before?
I don’t expect it to be cheap, but I also don’t want to spend a fortune. It’s really a surprise for my aunt
I have used Daytrip a couple of times and they were fine.
Winchester is a decent alternative to Windsor and worth considering.
Winchester is absolutely lovely, and an excellent alternative to consider, but it's much farther than Windsor from Heathrow—(about an hour's drive on a good run).
Unfortunately my favorite B &B in Windsor has closed. I did stay at the Castle Hotel though and it was not a pleasant experience. The 1st stay the a/c wasn't working in my room and it was very hot so all they could offer was a fan in the window to draw in air. I hardly slept. The next time I tried it my credit card was hacked. Luckily I got that removed from my account because they knew I couldn't be in Las Vegas and WIndsor at the same time. P.S. the room was in their annex with a wonderful view of the parking lot which didn't make for a quiet night with the window open. The only good part of the hotel stay was the location.
We had much better luck at the Hotel Castle Windsor in 2023. Our room was in the main building, and overlooked the Guild Hall. There was a wedding going on that afternoon, and I enjoyed watching the fancy people mill around outside afterwards. Our AC worked great, and after staying at Premier Inns for 10 nights, the room felt quite luxurious.
I have read other negative comments about the rooms in the Annex.
