Last minute trip and can't find rooms! Bath and Cotswolds

Hello!
We found great airfare to England in July, and I quickly booked it. Now I'm looking for room and am hitting lots of dead ends, especially with the cute/affordable B&Bs and boutique hotels in Bath and Cotswolds. Any advice? It will be my husband, 17 year old daughter, and me. Thanks!

For Bath, consider staying in Bristol and taking the train. 15 minute ride.

I don't see a shortage of options in the Cotswolds on AirBnB in July.

I'm hoping for more of a traditional B&B experience, rather than and airB&B. My understanding that an airbnb is just the room or house? Can it also include breakfasts and hosts?

Does your itinerary have you doing Bath on the weekend? If so, can you re-order your days and visit during the week?

A lot of the trouble is going to be becasue you want a room to sleep 3 adults. Your 17 year old will be adult for hotel booking purposes. These aren’t very common. Premier Inn only allows 2 adults and up to under 16s per room so even there you’d need 2 rooms .

I think this is why people are suggesting you look at airbnbs where you rent a whole property. Another good accommodation type to consider is serviced apartments. Again, these aren’t cute and traditional but they will give you what you need in terms of space.

Our stay at Manor Close was wonderful. Not sure what your budget is in the area of affordability, but they do have a single room as well as doubles if you would consider booking two rooms. https://www.manorclosebourton.co.uk/ Check out Hill House in Bath. Looks like they have a room/suite that can serve 3 people. Ownership has changed since our stay there, but the property was lovely. However, the website states they have temporarily suspended breakfast and it will resume sometime in 2024. No specific date for that is given. https://www.hillhousebath.co.uk/rooms

You're right in suggesting that AirBnBs typically don't include meals or daily direct contact with one's host(s); they're what the English call self-catering. If that's your desire, you need to find a more traditional B&B.

Everyone needs to find their own comfort space. After a lot of extended travel, my wife and I have realized that self-catering lodgings best meet our needs. But as you imply, it's not the best for everyone.

You can search on booking.com to find places, then go to the individual property’s own website to book direct. You can filter for type of property. However, a search for Bed and Breakfasts in Bath for 2 nights in July (random dates mid-month) produced only option offering two separate roome, a single and a double, or 2 doubles. In other words, the traditional “Bed and Breakfast” is unlikely to have triple rooms (supporting the suggestion above).

So I changed the search to “Hotels” and looked at small, boutique hotels and guesthouses. This did produce results, such as this guesthouse which has a true triple room:

https://kennard.co.uk/

Or this historic hotel which has a family room:

https://www.lansdowngrove.co.uk/about-us/

Or this rural guesthouse, outside of Bath close to the Cotswolds:

https://toghillhousefarm.co.uk/

(This one appears to be more like what you have in mind). Of course availability for your actual dates may be different, but the search on booking.com should come up with some similar options for you.

You are all so wonderful! Thank you! I'll try all of your suggestions. This might not be the trip where we get a quaint B&B experience, but that just means we'll have to go back again someday.

I do a lot of last minute travel/last minute changes to travel.

During busy season, like July, you sometimes have to make compromises regarding lodging.

I've stayed at a few different hotels in Bath from charming B & B's and hotels to the Premier Inn.

If I go back to Bath, I'll probably choose the Premier Inn. Sure, it's not charming, but it's quiet, clean and I get a good nights sleep. And for an insomniac like me, that's important.
