In London, After Feb 2, 2020 Rules No Longer Serves Their Afternoon Tea!

I just learned Rules has discontinued their Afternoon Tea service. Sob.

They call their afternoon tea, a Royal Afternoon Tea, and it certainly made me feel like a queen. First class service from a uniformed waiter, beautiful plush surroundings, fresh flowers everywhere (even the loo) superb food and delicious tea.. The price was 32.50 GPB which seemed a bargain in comparison to other places offering similar menus. It's at 35 Maiden Lane, Covent Garden so is very handy for sightseeing. I only splurged on a special afternoon tea once on my trip and I'm glad it was at Rules restaurant.

That is a bargain! We had Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason a couple weeks ago. It was absolutely wonderful, all you can eat, but considerably more than what you paid. We enjoyed every minute of the Fortnum experience and i’d do it again.

Did you sit at the table where scenes from several episodes of Downton Abbey were filmed? Such a beautiful restaurant. Glad you had a great time!

Re: dress code, everyone I saw was wearing nice, casual clothes, but I didn't see anyone wearing jeans.

Sounds like a very good deal, indeed. Thanks for reporting your experience and telling us how much it actually cost.

Funny, when I read the title I thought you were going to give the "rules" for having tea -- like no sneakers or knees must be covered ....

Aw, that's such a shame! :( After your review, I was putting it on my list of top picks for afternoon tea.

I wonder why the restaurant has canceled this service-- lack of popularity? Or too much cost?
