We (2 seniors and our 12 year old granddaughter) will be sailing out of Southampton end of June after a week in London and area. Would like to spend two nights in Southampton to visit Winchester and maybe Salisbury Cathedrals. Any recommendations for a nice hotel? Prefer comfort, a/c, elevators - as well as location. Two possibilities are Elizabeth House and Grand Harbour Hotel. Thank you!

If you are interested in less expensive hotels, we found the Ibis to be perfectly acceptable when we stayed there year before last. It does have an elevator. The same hotel chain, Accor, also has a Novotel practically next door to the Ibis. It is a bit more upmarket and its restaurant is quite good.
We found the West Quay taxi company excellent, by the way, and used them a lot, starting with a pre-arranged pick up at Gatwick, as well as delivering us to the ship on departure day.
