Highly recommended guest house in York

My wife and I just spent two days at the Abbey Guest House in York. It’s the first place you come to when you cross the bridge from the train station. Rob, the owner, was there to greet us as we walked up to the house. He had loads of information for us and tips on how to enjoy York. We took several of his tips to heart and had a fabulous time in York and at the Guest House.

Thanks, Reederman. We're planning to visit York next year, so I'll bookmark this post.

We stayed there in 2017. Very comfortable. This is a true B&B as they were in the old days.

York was an absolute gem, especially after the (in a good way) hectic pace of London the 8 days prior. We walked everywhere and visited all the sights in just under 2 days. The Minster was quite breathtaking.

Isn’t York wonderful? We were just there and stayed at the Galtres Lodge in the Shambles area for two nights. I’ll be writing a trip report this week.

We stayed at the Abbey Guest House 12 years ago, owned by different people but excellent then. They had a few parking spaces next to the building, which helped us a lot. Easy walk to most of the local sights, and right on the river and towpath. Glad the quality is still there. York is a great place to visit for a few days.

This is a true B&B as they were in the old days.

Their website doesn't show it including breakfast, how can it be a 'true' B&B?

York is one of my favorite places in England and I have visited several times over the years. This guest house looks exactly like my kind of guesthouse. Thanks for the review. It would be great to stay by the river.

Nancy, it must have changed since then. But I do still have a copy of the booking confirmation so I know it was the same place, and we did have breakfast there. No biggie.

The website says they're not doing breakfast now but hope to, again, in the future. That could be a hangover from Covid, a staffing issue, or something else. They're close enough to central York that breakfast would be easy enough to get elsewhere.
