Hampstead Village Guesthouse?

Has anyone stayed at this place:

Hampstead Village Guesthouse?

I've been reading some online reviews, and they (of course) vary from "terrible" to "excellent." One of the things I find odd in the reviews is that guests cannot lock their rooms, but are given a key to the house. While I never travel with expensive objects, that does strike me as just a bit odd. And in the terrible reviews, people were saying the place was dirty (those reviews were from 2012, however).

I know how Rick feels about review sites, so...

Thanks!

I've never stayed there but I would not book if they still have a no cancellation policy. I love reading ratings on TA, especially the terrible category. I usually read them to see if there is a theme and then ignore them but altho the terrible ones on this property are from 2013 they do have a ring of truth that would be hard to ignore.

There are enough red flags going up that I will reconsider. It just looked like a fun place--lots of books, homey atmosphere, etc. Sigh...

I don't recommend it. The owners are less than friendly, it is an old musty dusty place, and the showers are for toothpick thin midgets. This is how it currently is (I am a travel researcher and visit inns, b & B's, hotels, etc to get details) . Your room won't lock. If you open a window, people outside can look in. The rooms, well, if you can call an upstairs room in a cupboard, a cold dank room in the cellar (enjoy walking up steep stairs with nothing to hang on to?) or out in the garden shed a "room", are no place they could pay me to stay. Imagine being asleep in the closet, I mean room, and having someone creep in on you while you are unconscious. Quirky, oh yes.

I thought you always went Five Star, Terri Lynn. Isn't this place a bit out of your comfort zone?

Oh my...

That sounds perfectly awful. If I want dusty, I can just stay in my own house! tee hee

Seriously, thank you for the heads up. I do appreciate your forthrightness.

Can anyone recommend a good place to stay for a week in Hampstead? We will be moving into a flat at the end of this week, but it won't be available when we arrive. Based on the input here, I have crossed the Hampstead Village Guesthouse off my list. I am looking for a friendly BnB or small hotel for two of us to stay for the week.

One option in Hampstead which looks feasible is La Gaffe. It is in the Village, and seems to have a homey feel. Rates are comparable to the Hampstead Village Guesthouse. I have not stayed there, just read the reviews.

Dillion's hotel Hampstead. I've not stayed there but a friend always stays there when she travels to London and I read TripAdvisor reviews to be certain it meet your needs. At Home In London, a website I research when looking for a place to stay in London has one Hampstead option; http://www.athomeinlondon.co.uk/our-homes/view-home-details/?ref=59

Might investigate to see if its available for your dates.
