The MonkBridge House is a wonderful B&B in York within easy walking distance of the town's center. Our room was spotless and well-appointed, breakfast was excellent, and the hosts, Paul and Fiona, behaved like favorite relatives. Their attention to detail is extraordinary--they even make their own butter! There is a lovely garden in the back. We traveled in the UK and Ireland for a month, and this was by far our favorite stay.
We will be in York in September. Do you have any thoughts/tips re. restaurants/sites. What was your favorite activity in York?
Thanks!
Jules m, I posted a trip report last year. I highly recommend the free tour run by the Association of Voluntary Guides to the City of York. mentioned in it. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/june-29-july-4-york-trip-report 2024
We recommend The Ivy for dinner: https://ivycollection.com/restaurants/the-ivy-st-helens-square/?utm_source=LocalGoogle&utm_medium=Organic
The most enjoyable thing we did in York was the Below the Crypt tour at York Minster. You go below the cathedral and learn the history of its construction.
I agree with Jane about the free tour. We walked on the wall, which is not too high for those of us who don't like heights.
Jules M, the York Association of Volunteer Guides does a free tour that we really enjoyed. You can sign up online to secure your spot.
Kathy, thank you. I signed up a couple weeks ago. I hear nothing but great things about this tour, and it is legit free!
Jane, thank you, great trip report!
You're welcome! I hope it helps.
