Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill

My husband loves Gordon Ramsay. We are planning to eat at his Bar & Grill on an upcoming London trip. I would love to hear from those who have eaten there.

Haven’t eaten at the Bar & Grill, but if you’re in Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport, both a breakfast and a lunch at his restaurant Plane Food were very good.

I too enjoyed a hearty breakfast at his place in Terminal 5. Presumably the food and service would be equally good in London, though maybe not as fast because the customers are less likely to be hurried.

I went to one in Heathrow: Expensive but good food, service excellent. I did not see Gordo there.

I’ve been to Bread Street Kitchen & Bar near St. Paul’s. I enjoyed a great meal there after listening to evensong at St. Paul’s. I highly recommend both.

I also enjoyed the eggs Benedict at Plane Food in Heathrow.

Gordon Ramsey's Plane Food is a world away from his Bar and Grill, they're incomparable. One's a not so cheap and cheerful, fast service airport eatery and the other is a high end restaurant. The OP is seeking feedback on Ramsey's Bar and Grill, opinions on Plane Food are irrelevant.

There’s a reasonable possibility that the OP could be passing thru Heathrow at some point during her upcoming London trip. If her husband’s a big fan, sharing info about Plane Food could enhance their trip, and someone else reading this thread could benefit, too. Chef Ramsay’s take on an airport restaurant is far above a basic pancake or burger joint. It does have some relevance, especially since no one has, so far, provided any personal experience at the Bar & Grill in question.

If the OP asked about a specific Gordon Ramsay restaurant and was inundated with replies about McDonald’s or KFC in London, that could be questionable.

Bon Appétit!

JC, being a fan of a specific restaurateur may mean one ends up considering more than one of the establishments of said restaurateur. Receiving feedback about them only broadens the choices, even in terms of an airport location. Quite relevant for many, just perhaps not for you.

I can't resist making a prickly thread pricklier so let me just add that when you get a chance to dine at a place run by the exception that proves the rule about English cuisine, take it.

This reminds me of a friend who replied, when I asked why so much of the Brexit coverage here in the USA gave the British side of the story and we heard much less of the EU's point of view, that obviously it's because we speak English.

If Americans were fluent in any languages we'd find the world to be an even bigger place, non?

@ Sherry

The Bar and Grill is on Grosvenor Square, Mayfair.

Restuarant Gordon Ramsay is on Royal Hospital Road, Chelsea. This is the one currently list in the Michelin Guide with 3 stars.

Both are fine.

I've eaten at Plane Food, it is average at best, even met and chatted with Gordon Ramsey there once and even he didn't eat anything whilst there. I'm pretty sure the OP is interested in eating somewhere where Ramsey has a significant input into the menu and cooking rather than putting his name to a place with a captive audience and guaranteed to turn a profit.

I thought the general consensus is that people should be answering poster's question which in this case Sherry wants to hear from people who have eaten at Gordon Ramsey Bar and Grill, not anywhere else.

Take a look at the full list of his restaurants on his website - if you include the restaurants in the US, the scroll goes on forever.

Does he have significant input into each and every menu and kitchen? Maybe those with a coveted star. Otherwise, is he just in it for the money?

As for "Both are fine" - seems like faint praise.

I’d think that he was instrumental in the concept, design, and menus of Plane Food when it opened with Heathrow Terminal 5. It’s been 16 years since that terminal opened, though, and he may not steer the daily operations so much now. Get things off to the right start, and the right staff can maintain the operation.

Glad to hear Plane Food has survived COVID. We transited through Heathrow a couple of times and Plane Food was a bit above typical airport food. Not stellar, and a bit spendy, but service was good as was the food.

Gordon has an empire and I doubt has daily input with any of his restaurants. Looking at the list, you can find some of his outposts in Vancouver, BC and Oklahoma (that one was a bit of a surprise). His TV shows here in the US have definitely made him a celebrity.

I don’t think he will have much day to day input into any of his operations, possibly with the exception of his flagship at Royal Hospital Road. It’s far too large a business now for him to oversee it personally, especially while also persuing a media career.

That doesn’t mean that it isn’t worth going to one of his restaurants if you’re a fan. They are all attempting to interpret his vision at different price points.

Gordon Ramsay’s Bar and Grill was very near our rental apt so we went there a few times. Fabulous!

@JC …. after all the threads re: commentary on posting ethos, I would have thought the same.

(and yes I’m clumsy on the inserting quote thing”
