England Hotel Recommendations--Bath & York

We just returned from a trip to England and can highly recommend two hotels:
--The Bath Abbey Hotel in Bath. Great location just a few blocks from the train station. Large and comfortable room, quiet, friendly staff, and very nice breakfast. just a couple of blocks from the heart of the city.
--Principal Hotel York. Located next to the train station and just a few blocks from the heart of downtown York. Classy old building, great room, friendly service, and generous breakfast. A little pricey but worth it,

Also, if you are looking for a nice restaurant in York, we really liked Rustique, they serve classic French food.

Thank you for the information, especially with the location description. York and Bath are on my list for a return visit to England sometime in the future.

Since you mention The Principal being located next to the train station, I wonder if it is noisy there?

Although there is lot of train traffic at the station, I did not hear anything. However, our room was on the other side of the hotel, which is a very large old stone building, and it's about 200 yards to where the tracks are located.

We stayed at the Principal in York maybe six years ago, found it quiet and comfortable. It is especially convenient for train travelers because you literally roll your bag from the platform into the hotel. It's a short walk across the river to the historic center, and also a convenient walk to the railroad museum - which we visited after checking out and storing out bags at the hotel.
