We want to spend one night in Dover prior to a cruise that leaves the end of June. Any suggestions?

I don't have a suggestion, sorry. I hope you have better luck than I did with the world's worst B&B - granted it was a few years ago.
If you don't need to be in Dover you might be able to be happy (ier) in a town nearby - Canterbury is a good suggestion.
Without wishing to offend anybody there, my impression of Dover is very similar to a dump.

Stay in Folkestone, Walmer or Deal. Canterbury is further away. Dover is dire.

Canterbury is a fine destination and I'm sure has good places to stay. But we liked this hotel in Dover, right on the beach, the night before our cruise. And Dover Castle is well worth some time. It was years ago, but Dover didn't seem like a dump to us. However, Nigel and Jennifer have doubtless spent more time there than we have.
