Crafty Cottages, Chipping Campden, Cotswolds, England

We were looking for a place to stay in Chipping Campden, and decided on Sally Galvin's B&B, The Chance. We learned from Sally that they were closing down operations on the B&B this year, as they are now running 3 cottages right in the central part of the town, and were focusing on those instead. The cottages had a 3-night minimum and we only needed two nights (for two couples), but she was very gracious in offering us the 2-night stay at two of the cottages since she could no longer offer the B&B.
We booked this back in February for a stay in August 2019. The next thing that happened was the other couple was unable to travel and we had to cancel their cottage a couple of weeks prior to the stay. We had already paid fully for the cottages by this time and Sally was under no obligation to refund any money, which we fully understood. However she said that if she was able to rent their cottage she would refund the money. So sure enough, a few days before our stay she let us know that she had been able to rent it and refunded their money, less a small administrative fee. This was certainly not something she needed to do, and we would have been fine with that. This was a very honorable step to take.
Then, we arrived for our stay and we were so impressed by this cottage. It was fully stocked, and I mean fully! This was midway through our 3-week trip, and there was actually a washer/dryer and she provided laundry pods so we were able to get some of our clothes cleaned. The cottage was very clean and comfortable. We were on a side street (yes, Sheep St!) just out of the main street. There was a small garden which was a delightful place to sit and just enjoy the pleasant day! I was able to walk part of the Cotswold Way (to Dover's Hill, and then in the other direction to Broad Campden), and really enjoyed the whole area.

I also had the opportunity to meet Sally Galvin while we were there. What a pleasant person, and very helpful in telling me how to get to the different walking paths I was seeking.

I would highly recommend a stay at any of these three cottages (I didn't see the other two but I'm sure they were just as delightful and well supplied as Crafty Cottage).

Hi Kim,

I planned our UK trip itinerary entirely on Rick Steves' Great Britain book. Having been on several cruises over the past few years, we decided we wanted an alternative to the structured itineraries of the tours (although cruises & tours certainly have their benefits). We chose Chipping Campden based on Rick's book as our Cotswolds destination. It was very pleasant and if you are a walker I'd highly recommend it. We stopped here for two nights between two nights in Conwy (North Wales) and four nights in Bath, en route to our final destination of London.

I contacted Sally about our staying at one of her cottages. She was so helpful. I definitely want to do this after our RS tour ends in bath but it all depends if I can get baseball tickets in London in June 2020. We will have about 5 or do days to plug in if all go well. Won’t know for sure til end of November and that stinks!! 🙁
