Clean, cheap place to stay for a week?

I'm considering a B&B to stay while in London, however, I'd like an alternative. Some place convenient, "cheap", clean and basic. Nothing fancy, but friendly and reliable as well. No breakfast included. Some place with a private bath for double vacancy. Any recommendations? A modern family hostel is fine, but with the requirements above.

Mike, can you tell us what you consider cheap? It is hard to use cheap and London in the same sentence. Have you looked into the London School of Economics?

In September we stayed in a studio apartment on the South Bank, not too far from the London Eye. It was fantastic, and it was $150 per night (at the exchange rate at the time) on airbnb.

Mike: I will ask the question more plainly .... how much do you want to spend? Have you checked out AirBnB?

Mike, you should look into the International Youth Hostel Association. They have a few rooms that will meet your criteria. You will need to book early.

Otherwise, AirBnB may be your best choice, or you can look on TripAdvisor to find "specialty lodgings" and this will include other types of hostels.

Good luck.

The Lancaster Hall hotel, formerly German YMCA, has rooms in its Youth Wing that are well under 50 pounds. Are you a youth?

I'll piggyback on Norma's suggestion. The Lancaster Hall hotel can be a good budget friendly alternative. Part of it is the hotel with singles that go for 70-75£ a night and the other part is the youth hostel.

Mike has indicated that he needs a double room.

Instead of posting in an area for Reviews of ....... You would get better results if you posted in the Q&A section for England.

We have stayed at Lancaster Hall several times and will be again in June. It is just north of Hyde Park and convenient to several tube stations. It is 90 pounds for a double. It does include breakfast.

Mike, you might like the Premier Inn London Kensington at Earl's Court. It is nothing fancy but has a warm, welcoming, staff and is very conveniently located to a lot of things including public transport with short walking distance. At times, it is as cheap as $62. Breakfast is not included but is available (and good) and it is clean and in a safe area. You will have a private bath and a comfy room with tv and nice beds. Rooms are nice.

No, No these are all great. Sorry for the late response but my inbox was flooded with Forum notification emails. One of my other threads was hijacked and went wild from there.

I can't thank you all enough. These are places I would never have found without your recommendations. Cheers!!!!
