My bride, two children and myself will be traveling to the UK this June for 14 days. Spending most of our time in Scotland.
We'll be spending our first two day in Canterbury and attending Mass at the Cathedral.
We need advice on lodging near the city center.

Hi, there. We're on a Rick Steves tour that will be starting in Canterbury. The tour group is booked into the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge, which is actually in the Cathedral grounds. I've booked a night before the tour begins, and the rate was £135 for a double. You can check out the website; the place looks nice, if a little pricey.

You might try the Millers Arms -- http://www.millerscanterbury.co.uk/welcome. They have a family room. On the website they ask for the number of kids aged 3-12.

We stayed at Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel. Ten minute walk to city centre or 6 Pound taxi ride.
Found it on Trip Advisor. Search "dealzippy.co.uk" for a voucher (akin to groupon). Very comfortable.
It sits back from the street and is quiet.
