If you are looking for local food in Canterbury beyond the usual tourist fare try the Goods Shed in the neighborhood by the Canterbury West rail station. The market opens at 9:00 with produce, butcher, baker, fishmonger, and cheese monger as well as a wine shop and general grocer. The restaurant does lunch (bookings 12 through 2:30) and dinner (5:30-9:00 bookings) Tues-Sat and is open 11-4 on Sunday. Wonderful if limited menu featuring local ingredients respectfully prepared and reasonable wine list. We really enjoyed the "in the market" ambiance and the quality of the food.
