Looking for a reasonably priced accommodation close to Wimbledon for July 2024, or a hotel close to a train line that would take us out there. Limited walking.
Is there somewhere specific in Wimbledon that you want to be near? It’s quite a big area so to reduce walking it would be useful to know if you want to be by the town centre or by the common, for example.
The first two weeks of July are the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis championships and everything within a 50 km radius is likely to be already booked up or outrageously expensive. Are the Championships what interest you? If so you might look at some where like a Premier Inn near Waterloo or Victoria Stations (both tube and rail) which serve Wimbledon. You would then need to get a bus or taxi to the tennis.
Prices are going to be high during Wimbledon.
I just booked at my favorite place in Earls Court for late June/early July. The price for a small room was nearly $300/night. That's about 70% higher than the same room in April.
The manager told me that they get some of their highest rates in July much of that due to Wimbledon.
Check out the Premier Inn in Earls Court. It's one block from the tube station and then about a 20 minute trip on the District Line to Wimbledon.
Much the keenest PI prices at the moment are in central Croydon. Like around £150 a night cheaper.
It is a 30 minute ride on the Croydon tram link (streetcars to you) from Croydon to Wimbledon for £1.75 each way. A lesser known part of London's transport infrastructure- at least to foreign tourists.
Croydon has excellent train access into central London- the main station is East Croydon with trains every few minutes, but there is also West Croydon for regular trains to central London.
Croyden and the tram are an excellent suggestion. I never heard of this, but there is more information about it on these websites (the first one is “unofficial” but very informative):

If you are planning to attend the tennis tournament, do you already have tickets, or a plan for acquiring them?
