Planning a 12 day trip to London in Sept. Thought I should consider the south side of River Thames as well as north side. What are pros and cons of staying on each side?
Also considering places around Tower Hill/Tower of London and Bayswater...thoughts???
As long as you stay within walking distance of the circle line you will be fine.
Personally I like Southwark, but it is easy to get around in London
I have had to attend meetings with a client who is based near Tower Hill. It takes ages to get there from the West End, so it wouldn’t be my choice.
Bayswater is a good location for the West End and has many restaurants and independent shops, rather than national chains.
You want close proximity to an underground line or bus route.
Yes, Thanks for the input, eliminating Tower Hill area, now focusing on west side Bayswater, Earl's court, Chelsea, Kensington and around British Museum
IMHO Kensington is perfect.
We loved staying in Chelsea near King’s Road. Beautiful area.
I stayed at Premier Inn Waterloo on the South Bank and it was quite easy to get anywhere that I wanted to go. I think the advice about "anywhere on the Circle Line" is outdated. It was just a few block walk to Waterloo Station where I could get on 3 different tube lines with a quick transfer later if I needed it. I could easily walk across to Westminster. I really enjoyed the location along the Thames and being able to walk along it in the evening. Good choices for restaurants and several groceries near by.
