Recommendations in Prešov, Slovakia

In Prešov, Penzion Trattoria is an excellent place to stay. It's only a few blocks from the main street of the old town center, and a friendly, family-owned lodging with a nice restaurant. (I recommend the “roe with root vegetables and rice” and the poppy seed ice cream.) You can dine in the outdoor garden area, and in the summer there is a small swimming pool. The owner, Julius, is a gentle soul who made us feel very welcome. Breakfast features the usual cold buffet items, with a plus of eggs made to order and of course fresh-made coffee. In September 2018, we paid only €70/night for two, including breakfast. In town, the restaurant Šarišská chiža serves traditional Slovak food--a good place to try the national dish, bryndzové halušky (potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon), and some locally brewed dark Šariš beer.
