We are staying 2 1/2 days (3 nights) in Odense May 28-31. We plan to do the museums in town but would like to see some of the Danish coast. Is it worth trying to get to Kerteminde or Hindsholm or one of the other coastal towns? Is renting a car for the day or hiring a local guide with a car a possibility? If renting a car, is that best done from the US ahead of time or can you wait until you are there (the weather might be a factor in the decision).
We arrived in Odense via train after a short overnight in a coastal town. I would check if trains would be available to whatever coastal area you are interested in visiting.
We rented a car in Odense to head to the next part of our trip. It was a bit of a whirlwind to find the rental car place which was hidden in a strip mall kind of place but all went well. Driving in Denmark is a breeze and they take great care of their roadways, We did not find any "deals" on rental cars and booked in advance while still here in the US. I would not chance to find a car available on arrival without an advanced reservation. Rental cars are very expensive here so if you can use public transit all the better.
Kerteminde is an easy bus ride from Odense. Unless you want to see really rural areas, there is no need for a car. You can find schedules for all public transport in Denmark at www.rejseplanen.dk/
Thanks for the info. It looks like a bus or train to the coast would be a better bet than a one-day car rental. I will try the rejseplanen.dk site.
