Vrå?

What sorts of things are there to do via train/bus/ or car near Vrå ?

My 18 year old kid is planning to go to the folk school in Vrå this spring as part of his gap year. We are thinking of visiting and traveling with him at the end of the term in mid June 2026. Vrå seems like a pretty small town, I tempted to visit there so he can show us around, but I'm not sure how much there is to do. We like hiking and do like traveling to out-of-the way places. For example, last summer in Maine, we spent time on Monhegan island. On another trip, we loved visiting Great Blasket Island, Ireland. We are from the US, the whole trip will be 10-14 days, a portion potentially near Vrå. Thanks in advance.

Aalborg is the big city relative to Vra and is about 30 minutes away by train.

I have been in the area, called Vendsyssel, many times. Though I don’t recall ever visiting Vrå itself. I doubt there’s that much to see in that town. Vendsyssel has some seasonal holiday towns, such as Blokhus and Løkken, but those would probably not be my top recommendations for travellers like you.

I suggest you consider:
- Skagen: Nice and popular village, well known for the Skagen Painters. If you go there, make sure to visit ‘Grenen’, where Skagerrak (North Sea) and Kattegat (Baltic Sea) meet.
- Råbjerg Mile: Migrating dune.
- Rubjerg Knude: Lighthouse by a cliff.
- Aalborg! As mentioned in the reply above. The most significant city in the area.

Some places are accessible by train and bus. Train schedules are respectable (often with 30 minute frequencies), but bus schedules are a bit more hit and miss. As Vendsyssel is a rural area so a car is a necessity for certain places, and a convenience for many other places.
